Devon Hawkins-Anderson
Devon Hawkins-Anderson grew up in Baltimore County, MD in the care of a large extended family that valued service and success. Despite the relative comfort of his upbringing, Devon was always troubled by the deep social and economic divisions within his hometown. Throughout middle and high school, Devon spearheaded and participated in myriad service projects to benefit his community and vulnerable populations. Nearing the end of his undergraduate career at University of Maryland, he made the decision to postpone his plans to attend medical school and commit himself to organizing for change.
Having spent the past 8 years managing special projects and programs spanning education, workforce, health, and environment in the public and nonprofit sectors, Devon is now circling back to his original ambition to pursue a career in health. Recently, he was appointed as a senior public health fellow in Baltimore City Health Department’s Division of Aging and CARE services through Baltimore Corps. Additionally, Devon is Co-Founder at LegUp Collaborative – a social innovation company that connects diverse Millennials and post-Millennials to career development opportunities that lead to living-wage jobs. Over the next few years, his plan is to become a full-time health practitioner and empower diverse opportunity seekers in Baltimore (and beyond) through LegUp.
