Saira Qureshi

Saira Qureshi joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2012 through the Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) program, working in the Office of the Director in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention through National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. Ms. Qureshi’s technical expertise is in gender and adolescent youth HIV/AIDS programming, inclusion of gender and sexual diversity in international development and monitoring and evaluation.

In 2013, Ms. Qureshi completed detail with the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC – Department of State), the coordinating body for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). During her time at OGAC, Ms. Qureshi worked with senior leadership to develop the PEPFAR Gender Strategy, which provides a framework for integrating gender into HIV programming for PEPFAR teams. After completing her detail, she returned to CDC and began working in the Division of Global HIV/AIDS and TB (DGHT) as the Desk Officer for the West Africa and the Americas regions. Since joining DGHT, Ms. Qureshi has traveled to over 15 countries to provide various forms of technical assistance to field team and implementing partners.

Prior to joining CDC, Ms. Qureshi worked as a Lecturer of Gender and Women’s Studies for Arizona State University. During her 10 years in academia, she taught a variety of courses ranging from Women and World Religion to Gender and Development. She completed a full range of training through the Safe Zone LGBT training program, which is an organized system of training that recognizes campus allies. Ms. Qureshi currently resides in Maputo, Mozambique and serves as the Deputy PEPFAR Coordinator.
