Fabian Rogers
Fabian Rogers is a passionate social justice advocate with over 5 years of community engagement, stakeholder, and socio–political strategy development. Most recently, he worked for the Office of N.Y.S. Senator Jabari Brisport where he served as a Technology Policy Advisor and Constituent Advocate from 2021 – 2024. As a Constituent Advocate, he acted as a liaison escalating community concerns and lack of access to different government–funded subsidies and resources amid the COVID pandemic troughs.
Fabian provided political analysis and insight that led to the creation, sponsorship, and co–sponsorship of several state senate bills related to AI, privacy, and surveillance technologies.
During his tenure as an independent political consultant and community advocate from 2019 – 2024, Fabian provided insights, keynotes, testimonies, political workshops, socio–political education, research, and advocacy for various campaigns, initiatives, and programs around anti–surveillance, facial recognition, AI, and privacy rights to shape an innovative, equitable future for all. He has monitored and responded to changes in the technology landscape by identifying impact and implications for underserved populations, as well as potential biases inherent in advanced technology systems and tools in city, state, and federal government. Fabian’s advocacy efforts culminated in offering strategic advice and conducting keynote addresses to shape federal guidelines for the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (WHOSTP)’s AI Bill of Rights.
During his tenure as an Advocacy Associate at Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (STOP) from 2020 – 2021, Fabian facilitated monthly meetings with a variety of stakeholders, including technology experts, media outlets, legal counsel, and activists. He identified opportunities to educate and advise citizens of rights, policies, and available services to support them in responding to violations. Fabian also monitored ongoing city policy issues and utilization of AI, data fusion, facial recognition, surveillance, and biometric technologies, to improve or challenge the rights of individuals, particularly in addressing trauma related to policing.
In addition to his experience in state government, Fabian brings years of volunteer community advocacy, organizing, and socio–political educational programming. During his tenure at Atlantic Plaza Towers Tenants Association (APTTA) from 2018 – 2022; Housing Organizers for People Empowerment (HOPE) from 2019 – 2024; and Brownsville Green Justice (BGJ) from 2020 – 2024, Fabian led privacy, anti– surveillance, environmental and housing justice efforts through community outreach, socio–political educations, direct actions, government public hearing testimonies, and socio–political strategy development against questionable third–party surveillance technology vendors; negligent private utility providers; and subpar N.Y.C. landlords mismanaging affordable housing.
During his time as a National Urban Fellow, he is most interested in exploring the quantitative skills of policy analysis, data analysis, and research to supplement his stakeholder strategy development, organizing, and advocacy skills. He’s looking to expand his expertise from community advocacy to direct political governance, transforming experiential knowledge into political power and pre–emptive community protection.
